Expertise:

Prof. Dr. Adnan Salihbegovic is   professor at the Faculty of electrical engineering (ETF), University of Sarajevo, teaching on Modelling and simulation and System Identification at Department of Automatic control and Electronics and courses on CAD/CAM Engineering and HMI/SCADA system and real-time embedded systems design, at the Department of Automatic Control and Electronics. He has held position of vice-dean for science and research at the Faculty from 2004 – 2011 during which period Faculty has participated in several FP6 projects and now is working on 3 FP 7 projects as participating member in projects Consortiums. His teaching at the University has started in early seventies and since then he has been involved in educational process for four decades.

 

Research Interests:

Parallel to his academic and teaching duties at ETF, he has been working as researcher and research director with, at that time, leading Institute for automatic control and computer sciences IRCA, within  one of the largest industrial Company in former Yugoslavia- Energoinvest in the period of 1967 till 1993.

During   26 years of research and development in industry, he has designed and developed more than 30 apparatus and devices in analogue, hybrid, digital and microprocessor technologies, for industrial process monitoring and control, including PID, nonlinear and adaptive controllers, PLCs, and distributed control systems. All these products have been introduced in full scale industrial production and implemented on numerous industrial plants including thermal plants, refineries, alumina and steel metallurgical plants, etc.

From that period of  research and development he has authored and patented as principal holder four patents in USA, former SSSR and several European countries.

Since 1993 till 2003 he has been working as lead control and instrumentation system design engineer at Refinery Ras Lanuf in Libya, and has designed and implemented many upgrades and revamping as well as new system designs on Utility, Refinery, Ethylene and Polyethylene plants, Harbor loading systems, Tank farms, Fire and Gas systems, etc. Many of these systems have been designed and built as Safety instrumented systems with SIL 3 safety level in system design and maintenance.

He is author or co-author of more than 60   scientific papers and numerous professional articles published in  refereed journals and   conference proceedings, related to the field of automatic control and  control systems design, system architectures, software engineering and real-time operating systems, distributed systems and networking and network protocols.

Currently, he is also working as advisor on several projects for industry in the area of design of HMI/SCADA systems and Fire & gas systems for refineries. 

He is member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), American Society for Computing Machinery (ACM)  and International Society of Automation  ISA. He has organized  two IEEE sponsored International conferences as general chair, was Program committee chair  on two conferences and served as member of program committee  on many more. He is also serving as national representative in FP 7 ICTC Committee in European Commission in Brussels.
